I am strongly pro-life, and have fought to protect the rights of the unborn my entire career. I will continue to fight for this cause because I value the sanctity of all human life.

Border Security and Immigration

Before we can begin to address the issue of illegal immigration, it is essential that, as a sovereign country, we have complete operational control of our borders in both the South and the North.

Before coming to Congress, I taught in the public high school classroom for 28 years. If there's one thing that experience taught me, it's that education is a local issue. Our education priorities in Utah should be established by parents and local teachers, not mandated by the federal government.

Energy and Environment

Americans deserve to have Congress enact a workable, comprehensive energy plan based on conservation, production, and innovation.  We need to develop the resources we have here in the United States and we need to become less reliant on foreign oil and energy.

Government Reform

Government reform begins with the basic concept of federalism and the fundamental principles outlined by the founding fathers in the 10th Amendment to the Constitution.  Foreseeing that there would be attempts to expand the federal government beyond its intended size, the founding fathers sought to establish a safeguard that would ensure that all powers not granted to federal government by the

Jobs and Economy

I have always pledged to cut taxes and to lower the federal tax burden for Utah families. I am glad I have had the opportunity to make good on that promise. One of my first votes in Congress was for $550 billion in tax cuts and rate reductions over more than a decade.

National Security and Hill Air Force Base

My number one priority in the U.S. Congress is supporting our military and defending and promoting Hill Air Force Base and the other valuable military installations in Utah’s First District – not just because they provide Utah jobs, but because they are critical to our national defense.

Public Lands

When committee assignments were being made, I specifically requested a position on the House Natural Resources Committee. I am committed to helping Congress strike a balance for wise management of our public lands and resources.

Second Amendment Rights

The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the right of each American to keep and bear arms. It states that this right shall not be infringed. In recent years, some have tried to infringe on this right, not through the legislative process, but by taking issues to court.

Social Security

The federal government must keep its contract with America’s seniors. Preserving social security benefits for those who have paid and are paying into the system must be a priority. Congress should pass measures that make the social security program more fiscally sound, without raising the retirement age, cutting benefits, or increasing taxes.

Space, Science and NASA

In my first term, I was pleased to serve on the House Science Committee, where I had a seat on the Subcommittee on Space. My original desire to serve on this specific subcommittee was based on the important connection Northern Utah has to our nation’s space program through entities like ATK Thiokol and the USU Space Dynamics Lab located in our District.
