Bishop Votes FOR Budget Act

July 25, 2019
Press Release
“… a good move for our national security …”

The US House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 3877, the “Bipartisan Budget Act of 2019.” Rep. Rob Bishop (UT-01) voted FOR the measure and released the following statement:

“In 1974, then Vice-President Gerald Ford addressed the graduating seniors of Utah State University. During those remarks, Ford said that, ‘truth is the glue that holds government together, and compromise the oil that makes government go.’ This budget deal is an example of compromise making government go. This deal will continue the crucial task of rebuilding our military after the deleterious years of the prior administration. Today’s move will only bear successful fruit if Democrats live up to their commitments.

“The truth is, our financial woes stem not from spending too much on stuff, but spending on too much stuff. This nuanced distinction lies in Washington’s overreaching involvement in programs and affairs better left to the states. Today’s compromise is a good move for our national security, but to right the wrong of fiscal irresponsibility, we must embrace the tenants of federalism in order to hold together.”
